Oblivion is the fourth installment in the Elder Scrolls Series and the first one to be on a gaming console (xbox 360, and ps3). It is a vast open world RPG. Charles Onyett, (2006) had only good things to say upon the release of the game in 2006. He was impressed with the options on character creation and explains how action picks up fast in the beginning of this well-made game.
Fallout 3 is a post-apocalyptic RPG game that was the first installment on the consoles for a widely popular franchise. Eric Brudvig, (2009) said when it first came out "It is an open-world role-playing game that delivers an experience unlike anything on the market right now."
Fallout New Vegas was the second installment on the gaming systems, and gave a much different approach to the world of fallout. Kevin VanOrd, (2010) a gaming critic, talks about the campaign in an article and says "the way it blossoms as you advance, giving you any number of ways to proceed, is extraordinary. The choices you make might lead to a dramatically different experience form another player's experience."
Rage is another post-apocalyptic game and was published by Bethesda Softworks and developed by Id studios. In Bethesda's eyes it was a failure on their part, because it wasn't revolutionary like many of their games are. (McElroy, 2014). Although, it did have some of the best graphics to that date.
Skyrim is Bethesda's "best" game to date, with the highest sales, and ratings. It was developed by Bethesda's developing company, Bethesda Studios. Skyrim is the fifth installment in the elder scrolls series and compared to its predecessor it is completely revolutionary. (Keast, 2012)
Dishonored is set in a Victorian era and is unique in the fact that it gives the gamer complete freedom in how they want to play. They can choose from multiple different paths: they can be stealthy, killing machine, half and half, or even not kill anyone at all throughout the whole game.
The Evil Within is Bethesda's newest game to be published under them. It is a survival horror game with a wide variety of creatures and enemies from the dead. Colin Moriarty, (2014) says in a review about it "My favorite part of this wasn't the gun-play, which felt solid despite some inconsistencies, but the fact that to keep the enemies down forever, I'd have to nonchalantly light a match and burn them to a crisp." Now-a-days it is just as important that new games are bringing something new, an innovative idea, to the gaming field as it is to produce well made games that will have gamers glued to the TV for hours at a time.
